Mail update

My mail this week so far. Well actually, the envelope with the blue stamp arrived on Friday, so did the postcard with the heron. Those two are great for comparing how post is being handled. The envelope doesn’t have a smugde, not a scratch, not a bent corner. It has, in fact, not even been cancelled. The postcard, however, has parts of the backside ripped off, for no apparent reason at all. Both of these arrived the same day so it was a strange contrast.

The postcard with the world on is pretty fantastic, I know that the person who sent me this one doesn’t know how fascinated I am by space and how much time I’ve spent watching the ISS livestream. The card even has one of those round global stamps that I showed you in the last post! Amazing!

The other one is from a friend in Sweden, who I suspect wanted to remind me that I need to send him a letter. It’s funny that it took me 24 years to get a postcard of the royal family, so I’m very happy about it! That’s our Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel, by the way.

As for the heron postcard, the sender has taken the photo for it, which I find fantastic, I want to take pictures like that!

I’m so happy I finally got a stamp like this, you have no idea. I saw them a while ago because almost every letter blog I follow has been posting about them, and I wasn’t actually sure if they were for international mail to begin with. Anyway, I feel a bit weird asking people to put certain stamps on my mail because..I don’t know, I don’t want to be an extra hassle! So when I got this without asking for it, it really made me smile :D

Yesterday I also got some very exiting mail from Hong Kong!

Oh and there was a book sale when I went downtown today. Ended up buying The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, and it’s quite different from what I usually read. It’ll be a nice change!

I hope my mail man doesn’t hate me..

Since I posted the last snail mail related post two days ago, my mail man has been busy for sure.

I got a few postcards. One from Rosie, with whom I had a swap of wildlife postcards, and one from Julie. The bottom one I ordered, it’s stamped 1948 and the picture is of the market square in my town. In the building to the left, or rather, in the house that stands there now, is my job office. I like old postcards from around here, over the years I’ve collected a bunch of them. I have a few framed too, but they’re not on display at the moment.

Letters from Germany, Illinois and California! Look at the owl! I love owls!

I wish I’d thought of this first, Erin sent me a letter written on copied recipes! How fun is that?! I’ll have to put them in a plastic bag if I try them out, or I’m sure I’ll spill something over them and that just wouldn’t do.
They’re in French, and although my French is absolutely terrible, I’m pretty sure I could figure out how to make it! Now I just need to find someone who can actually eat sugar, because my body would go on a full strike if I even tried to eat something called “sugar pie” ;)

Here is news about me; I love stamps. See, I grew up with a father who collects them, so I learned early to actually look at stamps, to see them. Part of the fun with letters and postcards is definitely seeing what kind of stamps people put on their letters. This Australian one is just fantastic!

I love churches, I love Germany, of course I love this stamp. But there’s more. It pictures Altstadt Regensburg, which is a medieval part of the city of Regensburg that has been preserved to this day. It is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, and it’s definitely on my list of places I want to go visit. Amazing!

Can I just say that I love the new US Global Forever Stamps? As far as I understand, they were released with the new increase in postage fees. They are absolutely amazing! I’ve gotten a few letters with these on and I’m just as happy every time!

As for outgoing mail, I’m definitely a bit behind, because I’ve been busy studying and cooking. Anyway, three letters going out in the past two days;

The green envelope has a wax seal on the back, I bought myself a wax gun a while ago and figured it was time to try it out! Two of them aren’t stamped yet, simply because I don’t actually have any stamps for domestic mail, I’ll have to drop them off at a post office.

That’s all for now, sorry about the huge post!

I love early mornings!

Don’t you?
Getting up really early, most likely for work. Making tea in the dark. Preparing some scrambled eggs for breakfast. Eat in silence while reading letters.

Speaking of letters, I got 5 of them yesterday. And a postcard from the lovely Helena in Japan. You know you’re having a good day when your mail comes tied together in a bundle!

I’ve prepared a post for a little later with some additional pictures from Sunday’s adventure, because I’m off to work now!
Tschüß!

Lovely

Thought I’d share some pictures from yesterday with you guys :)

Well, I did say I needed to take more pictures of incoming mail. This one was definitely worth documenting. Probably the classiest missive that has ever touched my mailbox. I love the cards, the one on the right is a picture of the Mappa Mundi that is on display in the Hereford Cathedral. Just wow. Hereford has so much history and treasure left, it’s so fascinating.

I took my boyfriend to the cinema last night to see the A Good Day to Die Hard, awesome! We also met two friends, so it ended up as an accidental double-date (they’re not in the picture).

All in all I had the best Valentine’s Day I could imagine, complete with chocolate, movies and dinner. Definitely a nice change from last year, when I couldn’t do much despite wanting to, because of the situation I was in.
I hope you had a nice day too, whether you spent it with a partner or not. It’s just a Thursday, you know :)

Snail mail passion

I’m not as good as I would like at documenting my mail, neither incoming nor outgoing. Well, here’s a batch of outgoing; a bunch of postcards and replies to letters I’ve received. I know that some of my letters from earlier days have started to arrive too, which is fun of course! It’s always so nice to see people’s reactions to receiving snail mail, even if it’s just a postcard. Especially if they didn’t expect it :)

I have one letter to write in Swedish still, going to my friend and former co-worker. It’s her birthday today by the way, so Happy Birthday Marie! Also have a few more letters going out to the UK, US and Russia. It’s funny, because I went into this challenge thinking I’d never find 23 people to send mail to (one for each mail day of February), and now I can easily send several letters a day and still doubt I’ll get them all done before the month is over. This is awesome! As one of my goals with taking part in this was to find people who are as passionate as I am about the writing and the letters, this makes me really happy. I even managed to find some people who noticed the Downton letters, and I certainly thought I was alone in this!

It’s time for me to leave, I have a great evening ahead!

Hello, fellow writers!

I hadn’t checked my most recent link referrals to this blog for quite a while, so now that I did, I was a bit surprised. I found that I’ve got a whole bunch of referrals from my lettermo.com profile page! That means that the people checking my blog, are fellow letter writers and participants. That’s awesome! Cheers!

As for how the challenge is going, very well thank you. I’m just about to reply to a letter I got yesterday, from France. Exciting! I like France, it’s weird, I’ve never been there but there’s some patriotic feel to it for me anyway, seeing as I’m part French. I would love to go, I mean sure, I’d enjoy visiting Paris, but mostly I want to check a bunch of French castles out (especially Château de Chenonceau and Château de Pierrefonds!), Vallee de La Loire, and the isle of Corse.
In the past few days I have also received two postcards, one from Berlin and an Alice in Wonderland themed card from Illinois, and letters from Germany and Michigan! I’m slowly getting through both the list on my Postable account, and replying to letters and taking part in postcard swaps on the lettermo forum. This is fun!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!

Letters and love

I’ve spent this weekend resting by writing letters. I find writing by hand to be very relaxing because it forces your brain to slow down and think in a way you usually don’t, at least for me, because my daily life is rather stressful and I’m always active and thinking and coming up with solutions to things. Writing keeps me calm.

These are a few of the letters and cards I’ve written this weekend. In some of the envelopes there are cards. Some of the missives are going to be delivered in person, and some of the ones I’m delivering this week aren’t on the picture because it would be too obvious who they’re for, and some secrets are better kept. Destinations for the letters above include but are not limited to; England, Japan, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Wales.

I have a feeling that this is going to be a great week. Lots of stuff going on at work, my boyfriend’s birthday is coming up, and don’t forget Valentine’s Day! I have a really nice evening planned out for us. I’ve always considered it to be one of those useless commercial holidays and maybe it is, but it’s a bit special this year so I’m actually doing something out of it. There’s never not a reason to celebrate love, is there?

A maily day

(Pretty sure that’s not a word. See if I care :P)

There was also a shirt and a giant Hello Kitty bottle.
However, the best part of the day was about 10 minutes after checking my mailbox, when I received a phone call that made me incredibly happy.

Now, a cup of chocolate/cinnamon/chili tea and replying to letters. This day turned out great :)
