Life

I didn’t know what to name this post, to capture the wonderful feeling of growing something.

The lamp was purchased at the thrift store yesterday. Me and my boyfriend were looking at lamps for ages and after lots of contemplating I just kept coming back to this one.

As you can see I have a bunch of different seedlings and shoots growing in my kitchen window. I can’t show you what’s in the white box, but there is celery, sweet pea and China Aster. The plastic bag a bit to the left has a pot with leaves from one plant that I don’t know the name of, and from a kind of Hoya. Apparently this particular species is nicknamed Angel Rope, which I find beautiful. My dad has two large plants so when I visited, I cheekily nicked two leaves, hoping to get them to grow into plants of their own.

This is Zinnia Elegans, they’re going to have to be split up soon!

And here are a few shoots from a lemon tree!

This clock was my moving in present for myself. It says Kensington London on it, so how could I not get it? Anyway I needed a kitchen clock and this was perfect, also it’s not too noisy which I like!

Now all I need is some more spring days to get rid of the snow, so I can start growing stuff on my veranda too. Radishes, carrots and a bunch of different flowers are going to be there! I’m aiming to make a little garden out there, for me to enjoy with a good book and a glass of lemon water.
Wow, now I’m really looking forward to summer!

Sneak peek into my bag

I was tagged! Omg I was tagged! Yeah this is exiting to me, okay?
Anyway, it’s the What’s in your bag tag, and the lovely Samantha tagged me :)

My bag. I love this one, it looks so stylish. It’s black btw, the reflection is from my window..

From top left to bottom right;
Lint/cat fur removal thingy, USB stick, a small assortment of tea, a blue pen, a case (more about that further down), my calendar, wallet, phone, another case with contents shown below, The Complete Sherlock Holmes Vol.1 (with my awesome book cover!) & keys!

In my small case; my new camera. Also the inside of my wallet, just to show off the abundance of cards I carry around. Some of them aren’t even Swedish! Do you recognise any of them?
(The bottom left one with green stripes is my favourite, can you guess where it’s from?)

The larger case is my beauty/medicine case, in which I carry nail polishes, lip balms, a mirror, two kinds of lotion, hair spray, face moisturiser, motion sickness meds, hand disinfectant & a comb.

(I usually also carry an A5 spiral notebook with me, that’s where the pen belongs, but I managed to forget it at work so it’s not in the picture :( )

Others who were tagged by Samantha are; Tasha, Arjen, Sofie & Rachel

Remember..

It doesn’t matter if your loved ones can understand everything you’re going through, every single one of your problems. What’s important is whether or not they stay with you, even when they don’t understand.

Life is growing on me

morning

This morning I had the most amazing experience.
I had to get up and about pretty early because I had some things to attend to, because of this I found myself walking the streets of my home town at 8.15 am. It was still a bit dark and there were a few hours till sunrise, and I fell in love with life all over again.

I remember enjoying the early walks to school as a child, even though I was often tired and didn’t really like going to school, I did like to walk there because the mornings calmed me in a way nothing else did. I love seeing the world wake up, I love seeing the morning fade away and make room for a new day, unmarked and unspoiled, fresh to be moulded into what your heart desires.

I sometimes say that I wish I was able to be religious, able to have that kind of faith and trust in someone. To trust that you’re always being watched upon and taken care of must be such a gift. I came to think of this today while repeating the words “God only challenges you in ways he knows you can handle” which is something someone said to me once.

I obviously don’t believe in the words themselves but I like to think that there is nothing we can’t handle. That everything that is thrown our way is possible to handle. Not necessarily easy and most likely not nice, but possible. With every misfortune that might come our way this year, I’d like everyone to think of that and use that to strengthen themselves. Because it can be done, you have the strength, and as long as you believe in it, you can find it.
I know I will.

Thrifting Queen

I went to a thrift store the other day. Came home with two books; The Once and Future King and Jane Eyre, a key holder, a pot, some things I’m apparently too forgetful to remember, and the star you see above. It’s so pretty.

Let’s spice things up!

With fall comes a sudden darkness. That doesn’t just go for the weather. This is the time of the year when people put away their colourful summer clothes and suddenly you’re surrounded by black, grey, brown and plum. Not that I mind any of those colours, but let’s spice things up a bit.

  • Since you’re likely to be wearing a lot of dark jeans, tights and sweaters, focus on the details. Jewellry can make you shine. Especially earrings as they will frame your face.
  • Nail polish. Your nails are one of the easiest ways to add some colour, and although you might think no one looks at them, people do notice nicely painted fingernails.
  • Bags. I’m not very good at getting colourful bags myself, but I often notice when other people have them. H&M used to have a bright green one that I really liked. If nothing else, get a bright totebag! They’re cheap and will carry anything you need!
  • And last but not least; who ever decided that coats and jackets have to be colourless? No one, that’s who! I know it’s easy to go for the simple choices and buy a brown or black one, simply because it will match anything. But unless you usually wear lots of pink tights and skirts, any jacket in any colour will most likely match anything you’ll be wearing. If you still want to play safe, get a white one. But please, for your own sake, make sure it’s not dry-clean. I made that mistake, I have a white winter coat, and I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of money on dry-cleaning it. So yeah, you want to check that. As for me, I went to buy a bright red coat a while ago, I’ve been wanting one for ages.

These are just my tips and ideas to prevent the next 8 months from becoming a dark mass.

Too cold for skirts? Never!

I live in an area where it usually gets down to about -30 degrees celsius in the winter, so when I overheard two women saying that it’s getting too cold for wearing skirts and dresses in mid September, I was shocked. I usually wear dresses all year round.

I grew up in a somewhat warmer place, so moving here forced me to face many challenges. How to stay warm but still dress nicely in the near arctic winters was definitely one of them. I like feminine clothes, so wearing jeans 8 months a year is not something I want to do. So here are my tips and ideas!

  • Layers. I know people go on and on about this, but not only do they keep you warm, it’s also easier to peel clothes off if you end up in a warmer setting.  Say you’re going to your favourite café for a cup of hot tea. It’s bound to be warm there, and if you’re wearing your thickest sweater, you’ll get uncomfortable. Layers!
  • Tights and stockings. People underestimate them. Sure, a thin pair of 20 DEN stockings won’t do much to keep you warm, but there are really nice stockings up to 120 DEN, and there are knitted wool stockings that you can wear on top of them (you won’t want them on your skin anyway, they’re itchy). I often wear two pairs of stockings in the winter, it keeps you as warm as if you’d been wearing jeans.
  • Legwarmers. I know, I know, they’re not really this season’s attire. I don’t care though because they’re easily hidden by my winter boots. Also, when I go to the library no one cares what I’m wearing :)
  • Hats. Now this seems to be a real dilemma for people. They always say that hats don’t fit their style, or that they make them look stupid. But there are tons and tons of different kind of hats, and I’m pretty sure that with some effort, you’ll find a kind that you like. Personally I found that I look better in all sorts of hats after I cut my hair.
  • Last but not least; look at your feet. What kind of shoes are you wearing? Are you wearing pumps when it’s cold? You’re bound to be freezing. Wear some kind of boots. An idea is to bring whatever shoes you want to wear to the place you’re going. That way you can wear warm and comfortable shoes on the way there. I usually do this when going to work in the winter.

Now I hope that at least some of you are no longer in fear of the winter and that I won’t be the only one wearing skirts and dresses this year!
